Readers of St. Pete

“The most literary moment of my life occurred in the Red Light District of Amsterdam. I had flown into Amsterdam from Frankfurt and was in the process of reading ‘Notes from the Underground’ by Dostoyevsky. The first thing you do as a guy once you land in Schiphol Airport is take a cab straight from the airport to the Red Light District. I was walking down the street at about 9pm and I saw a girl in the window reading a book. She was wearing a Russian general’s tunic and pink short shorts. I tapped on the window and asked her what she was reading. She said ‘Notes from the Underground.’ I asked her what language she was reading it in. She said she could read it in whatever language I wanted.”
